Event Summary: Menstrual Hygiene Day – 2025

To commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025, Arise for Social and Gender Justice (ASGJ) held a school outreach at Kapete Primary School and Kapete Secondary School under the ongoing Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign. The event focused on improving menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation among school-going girls.
 
Activities and Reach:
  • Kapete Primary School:
  • Reached 100 girls in grades 6 and 7
  • Conducted interactive sessions on:
  • Understanding menstruation and the menstrual cycle
  • Importance of menstrual hygiene and safe practices
  • Breaking myths and misconceptions about menstruation
  • •Promoting body confidence and self-care
  • Kapete Secondary School:
  • Engaged 300 girls from form one to grade 12
  • Delivered comprehensive menstrual hygiene education covering:
  • Proper use and disposal of sanitary products
  • Nutrition and personal hygiene during menstruation
  • Emotional and psychological wellbeing during periods
  • Encouraging peer support and openness among girls
 
Additional Support Provided:
  • Distribution of dignity packs, which included:
  • Sanitary pads
  • Q&A sessions facilitated by trained mentors and ASGJ staff
  • Discussions on gender equality, SRHR, and the role of boys and men in supporting menstrual health
 
Impact:
 
The event empowered 400 girls with essential knowledge and resources, fostering a safe space for open discussions on menstrual health. Many girls expressed appreciation for the opportunity to ask questions, gain accurate information, and feel supported in managing their menstrual health with dignity.
